These fun worksheets explore digraphs to help learners understand the concept of one sound being produced by two letters in English. This letter pattern or vowel team makes it impossible to decode a word. Therefore, a word with a vowel team is a sight word that must be learned, as it cannot be sounded out.
The vowel team ‘ai’ sounds like long ‘a’ in wait but short ‘e’ in said, and short ‘a’ in plait. Then, there is ‘ea’ that sounds like long ‘e’ in meal and short ‘e’ in head. Also, ‘ee’, ‘ie’ and ‘ei’ make the long ‘e’ sound as in sleep, field and receive.
